Immigration Programs:

There are different immigration programs through which a applicant can apply for immigration to Canada and get PR – like : Federal Express Entry System, QSWP (Quebec Skilled Workers Program), Provincial Nominee Programs, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Self-Employed Program, Quebec Experience. Six kinds of Canadian PR:

  • Economic/ Skilled worker class: Under this class, the skilled worker can get PR based on some key factors like work experience, type of work, age, language proficiency etc.

Economic immigration is one of the most common immigration categories for people who wish to become permanent residents of Canada based on their skills, either from Canada or overseas. Applicant can apply through one of the following programs:-

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Business Class
  • Quebec Skilled Workers
  • Provincial Nominee Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

The economic categories are for applicants who have specific occupational skills and experience that meet the needs of Canada’s labor market and who will contribute to the Canadian economy. This includes management occupations, professional occupations, and technical occupations and skilled trades. Generally, applicant coming under NOC 0, A, B, fall under this category.

1. Federal Skilled Worker Program

Under this program applicant is assessed on the basis of six major points in order to qualify to apply under this class.

Six Factors:

  • Age: Candidate has to be above 18 years in order to be eligible to immigrate to Canada. However, more preference is given to age group of 25 to 35 years of age.
  • Education: Applicant should be at least a degree holder. The score goes higher- up if applicant is a masters degree holder or a doctoral.
  • Language: Minimum requirement for language proficiency skill is CLB7 in order to obtain a Canadian PR . The language test should be from the recognized language testing system only like IELTS | CELPIP. Applicant test results should not be more than 2 years old.
  • Work experience: Applicant can score more points on the basis of past work experience. More the experience higher the points.
  • Adaptability: It helps applicant in achieving extra bonus points if they have a family members or close relatives in Canada. Besides, if an Principal applicant has an accompanying spouse who can give language test and is qualified can help in contributing to the points.
  • Arranged Employment: This means an offer of employment that is made by a single employer which should not be an embassy, high commission or consulate in Canada. Applicant is awarded with 10 points for an arranged employment in case they are able to perform and accept and carry out the employment.

To become a citizen, you need to meet the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Level 4 or higher. This means you can:

  • Take part in short, everyday conversations about common topics
  • Understand simple instructions, questions and directions
  • Use basic grammar, including simple structures and tenses
  • Show you know enough common words and phrases to answer questions and express yourself

2. Federal Skill Trade Class

This program was introduced in January 2013 to fill the growing shortage of labour in certain skilled trades by facilitating immigration through election criteria that better reflects the tradesperson traits.

Criteria 

FSTC is based on pass or fail model with four selection criteria

1) An offer letter of employment in Canada

OR

A certificate of qualification from provincial authority in a skilled trade.

2) Language Proficiency – The threshold is set at CLB / NCLC 5 Listening and Speaking and CLB /NCLC4 for Reading and Writing.

3) Work experience in the skilled trade.- 24 months of the work experience in the same trade skill in the past 5 years.

4) Meet Canadian Employment requirements, as described in the NOC (National Occupational Classification System)

3. Canadian Experience Class

This class was announced in September 2008 for the foreign nationals who have been studying/ working in Canada to apply for immigration, citing their qualifying  Canadian Study and work experience. To be eligible to apply under this program applicant need to meet specific work experience and language proficiency criteria-:

  • At least one year of full-time work experience or equivalent part-time work experience in one or more occupation that are listed in Skill 0, A and B.
  • Applicant should have performed the activities which fall under Skill 0, A and B during the period of employment.
  • Applicant’s language proficiency results should not have been more than 2 years old.

4. Business Class

Business Class includes three traditional programs:-

  • Investors
  • Entrepreneur
  • Self-Employed

Entrepreneur- Start- up Visa

This is a recently introduced program which enables immigrant entrepreneurs to launch innovative businesses that will create jobs in Canada and eventually complete globally.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Have received a letter of support from designated Angel investor group or Venture Capital Fund.
  • Meet language requirements (CLB 5, English or French )
  • Meet the educational requirements
  • Have sufficient settlement funds

Self-Employed

Self-Employed refers to a foreign national who have relevant work experience and has the intention and ability to be self- employed in Canada and to make a significant contribution to specified economic activities in Canada. If you’re interested in this program, you must:

  • Have relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics and
  • Be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada

Applicant will be assessed on the basis of selection criteria which includes -:

  • Experience
  • Education
  • Age
  • Language Abilities
  • Adaptability

5. Quebec Skilled Worker Program

To be accepted as a Quebec-selected Skilled Worker, applicant must first make an application to the Quebec government for a certificate of selection. This application will include a medical exam and a police check. If the Quebec government accepts your application and issues you a certificate, you must then apply to IRCC for permanent residence.

6. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The PNP allows the Canadian provinces and territories to nominate people for permanent residence if they meet specific labor market needs of the province or territory in question. Applicants who qualify under the PNP will have their applications for permanent residence processed in priority to other applications.

Workers can qualify under the PNP in various types of employment, such as skilled workers, semi-skilled workers, investors and international student graduates.
